MORE UPCOMING EVENTS:.
FOR THE YOUNGER CROWD
For the month of March, the Children’s Church and Juniors will be reflecting on the power of Strength. The Disciple Andrew and the color Light Green are associated with this power. The children will explore the Biblical stories of David and Goliath as well as Samson and Delilah to come to an understanding that our true strength is the Christ power within every one of us.
Also, in honor of the Lenten season, we will read passages from Unity’s booklet Lent 2014: Rise Up and we will continue to explore the Parables and Miracles of Jesus to enhance the children’s ongoing spiritual journey.
We are all looking forward to the days getting warmer and the snow eventually melting so that we can resume our “Meditation Walks” around the block. This is a time where the children quietly reflect on their oneness with nature and bring back some interesting items to share, particularly sticks and rocks.
We invite anyone in the congregation who is interested in volunteering as an “Angel Aide” to please join us downstairs and you may get the wonderful opportunity to walk along with us.
UNITY OF FOX VALLEY GREEN TEAM
The Friday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. event will bring into view the benefits of using hydroponics and aquaponics and how to build simple hydroponic system for the garden and home.
Unity of Fox Valley Green Team member Chris Burisek of Fox Valley area’s Pure Prairie Organics, an organic lawn care company, will present and lead the vital discussion. He will also teach some of the differences between the two systems and how to build a simple hydroponic system. Some of the items already may be in someone’s house and all of it can be found at a local store. Those in attendance will learn about simple systems which can be used at home as well as complex units and farms that supply produce to local stores, restaurants, and farmers markets. As a bonus, there will be a raffle of a unit to take home and use to grow wonderful produce in an environmentally-friendly way in a home, apartment, office, or school!
The January Green Team CommUnity night brought a focus on how to reuse common items in society in a sense of reuse, recycle, and re-purpose. It included the film “Garbage Warrior” which was about using every-day items to produce thermal mass and energy-independent housing. Shari Ralish of Peace Parlour in Geneva gave a demonstration of re-purposed items and answered questions. George Nichols of Alliance Metal Recycling in Aurora offered information, discussion, and answered questions on recycling reasons and methods. Their discussions were enlightening.
Everyone is encouraged and invited to attend CommUnity night events, the fourth Friday of each month, January through October. Events begin at 7 p.m. and last until 9 p.m. with free admission and free refreshments. Learn the benefits of going green and using green practices are important functions for society’s future.
Planting seeds of better practices is the aim of each CommUnity night presented by the Unity of Fox Valley Green Team. An informative tentative schedule through June has been planned and the Green Team is receptive to suggestions and participation of all Unity-oriented individuals and of all community residents. We plan to see a growing awareness and improved green practices during the year, just as has been the case for the last two years.

HELPING AT HESED HOUSE
Working to help the community by serving meals at Hesed House.
On February 4, 2013 we gathered and stuffed the back packs. When the packs were assembled they were given to anyone wishing to keep a pack in their home or car. When you see a person in need, it’s given to them. Trust in divine timing that it will be the right person at the right time. This quiet ministry doesn’t judge or preach. It’s just a gift.
(Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty)
Was a GREAT success and lots of fun. I would like to thank all of the walkers and sponsors for participating this year. It was a lovely day for a walk along the river and our contribution brings hope and staples to hungry people. Nancy

.Love in Action Trip
In late October, nine members of Fox Valley Unity traveled to Chestnut Ridge, West Virginia on a Love in Action outreach trip: Bob Anthony, Nancy Baker, Tony Gross, Mickey Cowles, Alex Christensen, Perry Hurtt, Rick and Marsha McKay and Rev. Jan.
While serving this community they learned about generational poverty and how the churches in the area, along with World Servants staff and volunteers support the community.
Our team did a build out of bedrooms on the second floor of the community center. We finished work on a resident’s home, built a flower garden, cleaned up for the harvest party, organized games, made beautiful baskets for the party raffle, baked items for the cakewalk and hung family photos from the community.
Over 100 people attended the harvest party with hayrides, games, dinner, a cake walk and raffle. All the children went home with a blanket and plenty of prizes from the games. A wonderful time was had by all, including our team!!
World Servants, its staff and volunteers perform God’s transforming work in these communities. We helped some of the residents meet their most basic needs. Each volunteer who participated was transformed by the opportunity to serve and be served.
