* The Development of UnityThe Development of Unity

Time: 7:00 pm

If we consider that what we call Unity is the movement of Spirit—of divine ideas—in and through human minds and hearts, and if we believe that this movement of Spirit is ongoing, then each of us, through our willingness to receive and respond to Spirit’s movement, becomes an important, even essential element in the continuing evolution of Unity. In addition to tracing the evolution of the Unity movement from its birth in the minds and hearts of Myrtle and Charles Fillmore to the present day, the intent of this course is to pose two questions for reflection and response. The first of these questions is “What role does the Unity movement play in my personal unfoldment?” The second question is “What is my role in the development of the Unity movement?” This class is for new and seasoned members. Come join us as we experience something of the flavor of the early Unity movement and follow the history of the movement through the founding to the present day. The course will be presented with lecture, lively discussion and videos.

YOUTH EDUCATION
FOR THE YOUNGER CROWD

Young kids

The Children’s Church and Juniors will be very busy during the month of April. On Palm Sunday, April 13, all the children will be waving palms and joining everyone upstairs at the end of service while singing “Prepare Ye” from the musical Godspell.
Please remember to bring a dish to pass and join everyone afterwards for the church’s annual yummy Easter Feast.
On Easter Sunday, April 20, the children will be honoring the resurrection of the Christ Light within all of us as we reflect on the metaphysical meaning of the Easter symbols.Such symbols are colored eggs that represent new life, angels that symbolize our spiritual thoughts and sunrise that reminds us of the Christ Light that always shines! Also, the children will have their annual Easter Egg Hunt, hopefully outside, weather permitting.
Also, this month the children will be reflecting on the Power of Good Judgment. The Disciple James and the color Yellow are associated with this power. To further enhance this power, the children will be exploring the Biblical stories of Mary and Martha and David and Goliath.
We greatly appreciate Jen King who generously volunteers her loving service and time to teach the Children’s Church. Thank you, Jen…we love you!

UNITY OF FOX VALLEY GREEN TEAM

The Green Team CommUnity events are the fourth Friday of the month, January through October.
The Friday, April 25, 7 pm CommUnity night will be a highlight for a new concept“The Green Tomato Grocery Coop”
For those who attend “The Green Tomato Grocery Co-op” can imagine owning their own grocery store; buy from local farmers, likely without genetic engineering; and support and help to make a thriving business in “The Green Tomato Grocery Co-op.” The Green Tomato is in its infancy, however, early growth has been the result of planting good seeds. It will explore the downtown Batavia concept that will be good for the local economy, promote good health, will be good for the environment, good for the greater communities, and will be different than any other grocery store in the greater Batavia area.  Green Tomato Grocery Co-op will bring pedestrians, cars, and any other mode of transportation to enjoy shopping. Co-ops are economic tools. It will be worth the time and interest of anyone who wants to eat healthier foods.
Co-op principles include: Voluntary and open membership, democratic member control, members’ economic participation, autonomy and independence, education, training, and information.
The Green Team will look for continued increase in attendance at the important CommUnity events each month with increased awareness and increased good weather the foundation to improve good green habits. A focus of using fewer chemicals in our lives and fostering good practices and good health is a main aim of The Green Team. The Green Team CommUnity events are the fourth Friday of the month, January through October.
Here is the Green Team Tip for April which is in the passage area from the sanctuary to the entrance upstairs: Small actions create big change. Action to Spring clean your body and detox with green drinks applies. Get healthier by drinking freshly pressed vegetable juices. The key to creating healthy vegetable juices is to make green vegetables the bulk of every batch because green vegetables will not spike your blood sugar and insulin such as fruits and sweet vegetables.  Your benefit: Drinking one freshly-pressed juice each day is a reliable way of infusing your body with a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients that can protect your cells against premature aging and disease.

STREET MINISTRY

On February 4, 2013 we gathered and stuffed the back packs.   When the packs were assembled they were given to anyone wishing to keep a pack in their home or car.   When you see a person in need, it’s given to them. Trust in divine timing that it will be the right person at the right time. This quiet ministry doesn’t judge or preach. It’s just a gift.

.Love in Action Trip

In late October, nine members of Fox Valley Unity traveled to Chestnut Ridge, West Virginia on a Love in Action outreach trip:  Bob Anthony, Nancy Baker, Tony Gross, Mickey Cowles, Alex Christensen, Perry Hurtt, Rick and Marsha McKay and Rev. Jan.

While serving this community they learned about generational poverty and how the churches in the area, along with World Servants staff and volunteers support the community.

Our team did a build out of bedrooms on the second floor of the community center.  We finished work on a resident’s home, built a flower garden, cleaned up for the harvest party, organized games, made beautiful baskets for the party raffle, baked items for the cakewalk and hung family photos from the community.

Over 100 people attended the harvest party with hayrides, games, dinner, a cake walk and raffle. All the children went home with a blanket and plenty of prizes from the games.   A wonderful time was had by all, including our team!!

World Servants, its staff and volunteers perform God’s transforming work in these communities. We helped some of the residents meet their most basic needs.   Each volunteer who participated was transformed by the opportunity to serve and be served.
